All is Calm on Smith Mountain Lake ~ 4-27-2009
MONETA, Va. ~ What started out as a small private fishing tournament was carried out in that manner. Despite all the critics who said there would be problems and confrontations on the water between pros and amateurs, that just did not happen.
As amateur anglers mustered for a local tournament on Saturday, the talk was about fishing and having a great time watching the pros on their home water. There was no disrespect toward the pros, in fact, most anglers were making predictions of their favorite pro and talking about the techniques that were being used during the tournament.
After 6 hours on the water, the anglers returned to weigh their catch for the day. Lots of laughter, fellowship and fun were had around a simple picnic table and a set of scales that weighed the top catch at 18.75 lbs..... and all is calm on Smith Mountain Lake.
We would like to say thank you for all the support we have received from anglers and sponsors all over the country.
As with most all new innovative concepts, there are critics and skepticism from some. As with our motive from the start, this is not about disruption or to cause confrontation with any professional angler, but to give the Grass Roots Amateur Angler the opportunity to fish in a competitive event at the same time, same body of water and see how they measure up against the top professional anglers. Many Grass Roots Amateur Anglers from lakes across the country will never have the opportunity or may not wish to pursue a career as a professional angler, but would like to fish a single competitive event of this format.
If you are interested and would like to join this exciting new "outside the box" tournament format, we are currently seeking qualified Tournament Coordinators/Directors for the following lakes across the country. Click here to apply.
